1935 Rolls Royce
Long Wheel Base Sunshine Saloon

Norway 1999, the car park at the Brinskel Glacier, Norway.

Henry Royce built this car as a “Trials” car, which means that she was the first 20/25 hp Rolls Royce to have a sunroof and dipped headlights. The original invoices stated of the Rolls Royce Motor Company shows that am owner was not recorded. On investigation through the Rolls Royce Enthusiast’s Club, suggests that Henry Royce kept her for his own use for the first 15 months of her life, before selling her on to a Captain Hay who lived in Sutherland, Scotland.

It is believed that Henry Royce showed this car off to his friends and photographs in the December 1935 issue of the Rolls Royce Motor Bulletin, show the car in Wales.

With coachwork by Barker the car is well documented in several Rolls Royce books and was the feature car for Barker’s, as the classic 1935 body.

With a long wheel base she is very suitable for weddings, with lots of floor space.

As previously mentioned her first owner was Captain Hay who lived in Sutherland. She was then sold to a General Practitioner, who lived in Penrith and he “did his rounds” in her. From there she was off to the USA and lived there for 30 years, her owner, owning the Miami Harbour Club. The notes state that he kept her mechanically maintained to a high standard and her engine was run regularly, with an oil change every year.

Only 2 thousand miles was clocked during that time. The current owner bought the car from the America, with only 42,000 miles on the clock.

In recent years the car has toured Southern France and Norway and been put through her paces in Snowdonia, North Wales.
